Happy New Year!Big changes for the business and our family |
Happy New Year! 2024, it's finally here. To me it feels like 2023 was both the longest and shortest year of my life. So many crazy things happened, and things have changed so much for our little family. We are in such a different place than we thought we would be when we set our goals at the end of 2022, but we are so thankful for the lessons learned and the journey (as crazy as it might have been) that 2023 was for us. This is a bit of a longer email but it is full of exciting updates and the new and improved idea behind my brand. I do want to apologize for not sending out my monthly email in December. If you aren't on Instagram, then you probably didn't see my post about taking the month off. I knew it was going to be our last Christmas as a family of three, so I wanted to take time to savor as many of the little moments as I could, invest my time into my son and my husband, and really think over where I want my business to go in this upcoming year. It was such a beautiful time of reflection, connection, growth. I really took time to think and pray over the who, why, and what of "Unhurried Homemaker". Who I am and who I want to continue to grow into, why I create the content I do, and what I want to be writing on all platforms. The "Who"I thought over for so long who I want to be. When people look at me I want them to see the love of Christ overflowing from me and all I do. I want to be someone full of joy and life, gracefulness and love, forgiveness and forbearance. I want these things to be reflected in every area of my life. My motherhood as I raise my son and grow this new little life inside me. My relationship with my husband as I seek to have a bond with him that is the beautiful reflection of the love Christ has for His church. Then last but not least I want to be a source of hope, inspiration, and an encouraging friend. This applies to all relationships, in person or online. The "Why"Why do I take the time to post on Instagram, create blog posts, and connect via newsletters? What is the point of it all? Well, there are a few reasons. First and foremost, I do it for my family, for the life we dream of having one day, the childhoods I want for my children. It isn't all about the money, but anything I bring in from this little business is a little bit less strain on my husband, a little bit more we have to invest into our health and our future. The other big reason is because I have been completely overwhelmed multiple times during my "clean living journey" as some call it. I have not known where to start, not understood the chemicals in things, or known how to naturally care for my family. I want to help educate women so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families. I also want to help mothers and homemakers find magic in the mundane and not get so overwhelmed by the monotony of day-to-day life. The "What"This is so closely tied with my why. I want to create content that inspires women to do things differently so they can enjoy the little moments in life and not let them slip by. The education on clean and healthy living, as well as the toxins and their side effects, are to allow each woman to evaluate how important it is for their personal life. If that risk is worth the effort and stress of avoiding it or detoxing from it at that point in their lives. If it is, I want to help make that transition as easy as possible with DIYs, product suggestions, recipes, and so much more. For the homemaker I want to remind them of the joy that can be found in creating a clean and beautiful home, cooking nourishing meals, and creating a safe haven for the family they care for (or practicing for the family they want to have in the future). The simple things that can be done to make a home warm and inviting without spending a fortune on decor, and how to create healthy meals without becoming overwhelmed. And for the mothers who are getting through life and finding things not as exciting or perfect as they had dreamed, I am here to remind them there is hope and joy to be found. That our everyday ordinary lives are their childhood. That for many of us, especially the stay at home moms, our mission field isn't across the globe, but in our living rooms. In the little conversations, in the songs we sing, in the way we discipline them, or even just live our lives. There is so much that can be gained from pouring into children. The little smiles, the sounds of feet pitter-pattering down the hall as friends or siblings play, the moment of pride as they accomplish something they have been working towards. There are so many ways to reduce the crazy and just enjoy the organized chaos that is motherhood. It is a wild ride and so fulfilling if we just learn how to fall in love with every moment. This is who I want to be as the Unhurried Homemaker. The why I do what I do for my family and my followers. And what I am striving for my content to be. All this being said, it might surprise you to find out that I didn't create any new year's resolutions or goals for 2024. Sure, I have dreams, but nothing set in stone. If this past year taught me anything it's that we might have a plan, but God often has an even better path for us. I had so many lofty goals for 2023 and didn't achieve most of them because our lives were absolutely turned upside down. So, this year I don't a specific number of books I want to read or amount of followers I need to have. I don't have anything I have to do everyday of the year because let's face it, I have a toddler and am going to have a baby this summer. There will be days that they take every bit of time and energy I have and then some. So, I decided to do something different. I want to create healthy habits for myself. Almost everything I wrote down for January is something I already do at least once or twice a week. I love the quote: “
Good habits make time your ally.
I wanted to take control of the habits in my life and replace bad ones with healthy things that are going to push me to continue to become the best mom, friend, and wife that I can be. So I created this tracker so I can see how I progress each month and then look back at the end of the year and see how far I have come. I wanted to be able to share it with all of you as well. I am so thankful for each and every one of you who are a part of my newsletter family. I have added a built in discount to the link below. Enjoy and I hope this resource helps you get more organized, achieve your goals, and ultimately be able to enjoy more of the beautiful little moments of life. Thank you again for sticking around for the roller coaster ride of 2023. Let's see what 2024 has in store! Enjoy your year and this time of new beginnings. Sam Cosby - The Unhurried Homemaker |
